Canberra’s latest world-class events venue, built by locals for the community, is making waves in the events market. The Red Shed, located right on Lake Burley Griffin, boasts state-of-the-art facilities, the latest audio-visual technology, and catering managed by the renowned Occasioni by East Hotel. Operating as a not-for-profit, the Red Shed is dedicated to making rowing accessible to everyone—regardless of age, ability, identity, or socioeconomic background.

Born out of a passion for rowing and having a construction background, compounded by the will to share the sport with as many people as possible, John Gasson and his wife Jeanette funded the facility and equipment to bring this project to life.

“The idea was not to put another rowing club on the lake only accessible to few but to have a club for everyone. To make this viable we are offering this space for corporate functions with the knowledge that the dollars earned will mean that people who would never have been able to get on the lake and enjoy this magnificent sport, will now be able to.”

Jeanette Gasson commented “Rowing is the ultimate team sport. There’re no stars in rowing. It’s all about rowing as one.” The Red Shed offers plenty of opportunities for team building with a mix of water and land-based activities, including ‘para rowing’ which caters for those with accessibility considerations.

Situated on Black Mountain Peninsula, five minutes from the CBD, the elegant new Red Shed includes a rowing shed, wellness centre, gym, co-working space, café and functions area overlooking Lake Burley Griffin. Immersed in nature and away from the hustle and bustle of the city, the space caters for up to 200 delegates theatre-style or cocktail, or 120 cabaret layout or 160 banquet style - with the option to spill on to a balcony for drinks with a view.

Occasioni by Agostinis of Bisa Hospitality are the onsite caterers, bringing authentic Italian cuisine and contemporary flare. Dion Bisa, Brand Director, Bisa Hospitality said “Having the opportunity to hold events right on Lake Burley Griffin’s edge was one we couldn’t resist. The view at the Red Shed is spectacular, and such a unique venue for corporate events.”
